The Big Picture

The holiday season is a perfect time to reflect on our blessings and seek out ways to make life better for those who are not as privileged as we are. Here are a few ways you can brighten someone’s day this holiday season.

Take a meal to an elderly neighbour and spend some time with them. You will be surprised at how much joy you can bring to a lonely soul, just by being there. It doesn’t matter what you talk about, it doesn’t matter if you don’t talk at all – just watch television with them – just being there will brighten up their day : and yours too!

Buy gifts and give them away. Use your resources to help by buying gifts for those that won’t otherwise have them. Many churches offer “angel giving” or “adopt-a-family” programs that make this easy. Giving your gifts away is a wonderful way to really get into the spirit of Christmas.

Write thank-you notes. Help your kids come up with a list of people who made a difference in their lives this year and write thank-you notes to them.
